The scale
What the levels mean.
Every destination is rated in five areas. The overall level is our judgment of the whole picture, not an average.
| Level | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| 1 · Low | Normal precautions. Use the habits you'd use at home. |
| 2 · Moderate | Known risks in specific places or times. Plan around them. |
| 3 · Elevated | Real risk to visitors. Follow the top actions and have an arrival plan. |
| 4 · High | Serious risk. Reconsider the trip or travel only with a full security plan. |
| Risk area | What we look at |
|---|---|
| Crime & scams | Pickpocketing, taxi and tourist scams, robbery, express kidnapping patterns |
| Transit & roads | Airport transfers, road safety, rideshare and taxi safety, strikes |
| Health | CDC and WHO notices, vaccines, water and food, air quality, altitude, heat |
| Civil unrest | Protests, elections, demonstrations, curfews |
| Natural hazards | Earthquakes, storms, floods, wildfire and seasonal patterns |

Assessment questions
Are Nepsis threat assessments free?
Yes. Destination threat assessments are free for every traveler. Kits add a full arrival plan, emergency card and video briefing.
How are destinations rated?
Five risk areas (crime and scams, transit and roads, health, civil unrest and natural hazards) are each rated 1 to 4, with an overall level that reflects the whole picture.
Do these replace government travel advisories?
No. They build on official advisories such as the U.S. State Department's. Always check your government's advisory before you travel.
