What we watch

Where travel scams start.

Most travel fraud follows the same path. A travel company leaks customer data, a look-alike site goes live, then the texts and calls start. We watch every step.

Look-alike sites

New websites copying airlines, hotel chains and booking platforms, often caught the week they go live.

Travel company breaches

Airlines, hotels, booking sites and loyalty programs that disclose a customer data breach.

Phishing aimed at travelers

Fake login pages, "your booking was cancelled" texts and fake support accounts, tracked by the brand they copy.

Official fraud warnings

Warnings from the FBI, the FTC and the travel companies themselves.

Our standard

Specific, sourced, useful. Or it doesn't run.

Scam rumors spread faster than scams. Every Fraud Watch item has to pass four checks first.

  1. Check 1

    A real source

A public security feed, a breach notice or an official warning. Something you could check yourself.

  2. Check 2

    Specific

It names a company, a platform or a place, and a timeframe. Vague chatter doesn't run.

  3. Check 3

    Backed up

Verified directly, or confirmed by a second, independent source.

  4. Check 4

    Useful

One clear step you can take. We never call a company compromised without proof.

Has your email been in a breach?

Leaked email addresses are how most travel scams find their targets. Check yours free at Have I Been Pwned, the breach-search service run by security researcher Troy Hunt, and turn on its free alerts. Every Nepsis kit walks you through what to do with the results.

If your email shows up

  • Change that password, and anywhere you reused it.
  • Turn on two-step login for your email, airline and hotel accounts.
  • Treat "confirm your booking" emails and texts as suspect. Open the app instead.
  • Consider a free credit freeze with each of the three credit bureaus.

Fraud Watch questions

What is Fraud Watch?

Early warning on scams aimed at your trip: look-alike sites copying your airline or hotel, travel companies that have leaked customer data, and phishing aimed at travelers. Every item traces to a source you can check and comes with one clear step.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. Fraud Watch comes free with Trip Watch, and every kit includes a Fraud Watch page for your trip.

Do you search the dark web?

No. Fraud Watch uses sources you can check: public security feeds, breach notices and official fraud warnings. For personal dark web monitoring, we refer you to our partner Contingent Group.

Will you ever ask for my passport or card numbers?

Never. Fraud Watch only needs your destination, your dates and, if you like, your airline and hotel.

Will you tell me a company was hacked?

Only when it's been disclosed or confirmed. We never call a company compromised based on rumor.
