How we verify
One wrong alert can put a traveler in danger.
So nothing goes out on a hunch. Every alert passes the same five checks, every time, and tells you exactly how sure we are.
Step 1
Watch
We monitor official advisories, health notices, disaster feeds and trusted reporting every day.
Step 2
Verify
A warning needs one official source or two independent established ones. Two outlets repeating one report count once.
Step 3
Label
Every alert says how sure we are: Confirmed, Developing or Watch.
Step 4
Brief
What happened, what it means for you, and two or three things to do about it. Sources named.
Step 5
Re-check
Every alert carries an expiry. When it runs out, we re-verify it, update it or retire it in public.
Our sources
Not every source counts the same.
Only official sources can support a warning on their own. Everything else needs independent confirmation.
| Source tier | Examples | How we use it |
|---|---|---|
| Official | U.S. State Department, CDC, DHS, UK FCDO, Canada and Australia travel advice, WHO, USGS, GDACS, NOAA | Can support an alert on its own. We link to it. |
| Established reporting | AP, Reuters, BBC, ReliefWeb, established national and local outlets | Needs a second independent source. |
| Leads only | Social media, forums, eyewitness posts, blogs | Can start an investigation. Never cited or published. |
| Never used | Anonymous threat claims, rumors, partisan outlets, auto-generated news sites | Not evidence, ever. |
Re-check schedule
Every alert has an expiry.
When it runs out, the alert is re-verified, updated or marked expired.
| Content | Re-checked |
|---|---|
| Urgent warnings | Every 24 hours |
| Current-event alerts | Every 72 hours |
| Destination assessments | Every 90 days |
| Evergreen habits and guides | Every 12 months |
Confidence labels
We tell you how sure we are.
And when we get something wrong, we correct it in public. We never quietly delete it.
